Video footage circulating on social media appears to show the 31-year-old in handcuffs, being led away by four officers outside a busy nightspot in Derbyshire city . “We are aware of an incident which is reported to have taken place in Derby last night, and are currently investigating,” an ECB spokesperson said. “We will provide a further update when possible” .

Release Without Charge

Carse, who was not on England duty at the time, had been released from the Test squad to play for Durham in the County Championship after being an unused member for the first Test at Headingley . He featured in Durham’s comprehensive victory over Derbyshire, scoring 26 runs and taking two wickets, before members of the squad went out to celebrate the win .

While the precise details of what prompted police intervention remain unclear, reports indicate Carse was briefly detained but not formally arrested and was released without charge, returning to the team hotel shortly afterwards .

Stokes Appears in Background

Former England captain Ben Stokes, who had taken 5 for 17 in the same county match, was visible in the background of some footage . Stokes’ presence adds a notable layer to the incident, given his own involvement in a nightclub controversy earlier this summer following the first Test against New Zealand, for which he and Gus Atkinson received written warnings for breaching team protocols .

Test Participation in Doubt

The incident comes at an awkward juncture for Carse, who was England’s leading wicket-taker during last winter’s Ashes series with 22 wickets . He had been expected to rejoin the Test squad in London on Monday ahead of two training days at Lord’s before Thursday’s second Test against Pakistan .
