Ten Doeschate Handed Global Role in Knight Riders Restructure

Ten Doeschate

Ryan ten Doeschate has rejoined the Knight Riders franchise in a newly created leadership role, returning to the organisation where he enjoyed his most decorated playing days after stepping down as assistant coach of the Indian men’s team.

The former Netherlands all-rounder has been appointed Head of Cricket Strategy at Knight Riders Sports, a position that will see him oversee cricket operations across the franchise’s global network. The appointment was confirmed shortly after his two-year contract with the BCCI concluded following India’s limited-overs tour of England, with Doeschate opting not to pursue an extension.

A Global Role Across Four Franchises

In his new capacity, Ten Doeschate will be responsible for cricket strategy, talent identification, player recruitment, squad planning and performance evaluation across the Knight Riders ecosystem. He will work alongside the coaching groups at each franchise to develop and implement a unified cricketing philosophy.

Beyond the strategic oversight, Ten Doeschate will also serve as assistant coach for three of the franchise’s overseas teams: Trinbago Knight Riders in the Caribbean Premier League, Abu Dhabi Knight Riders in the ILT20, and Los Angeles Knight Riders in Major League Cricket.

“We are delighted to welcome Tendo back to the Knight Riders family,” Knight Riders Sports CEO Venky Mysore said. “His deep understanding of our philosophy, combined with his experience across franchise and international cricket, makes him ideally suited for this role. He will help shape the next phase of growth across the Knight Riders ecosystem.”

A Decision Driven by Personal Reasons

Ten Doeschate’s departure from the Indian setup had been anticipated after he informed the BCCI earlier this month that he wished to step away. Cricbuzz had reported that the decision was driven by personal reasons, with the 46-year-old keen to spend more time with his family in London after completing his two-year commitment with the national team.

The move represents a full-circle moment for Doeschate, whose association with the Knight Riders predates his coaching career. He first joined Kolkata Knight Riders as a player in 2011 and was a key member of their IPL title-winning squads in 2012 and 2014. He returned to the franchise as a coach in 2022 and was part of the support staff that helped KKR secure their third IPL crown in 2024 before joining Gautam Gambhir’s India coaching staff later that year.

“This is a unique opportunity to work with the coaching and analytics teams across our global franchises to strengthen our scouting and player development systems, and to build a long-term cricket strategy,” ten Doeschate said.

The appointment formalises his return to a setup where he remains a revered figure, and signals Knight Riders’ intent to consolidate their cricketing identity across their expanding global portfolio.
