New Zealand Hand Casual Contracts to Four White-Ball Stars for 2026-27

New Zealand

New Zealand Cricket is keeping its white-ball options open. The board has confirmed casual playing agreements with four experienced players for the 2026-27 season.

Finn Allen, Lockie Ferguson, Adam Milne, and Tim Seifert have all signed the deals. The contracts allow them to mix international cricket with franchise leagues while staying connected to the national setup. They will be available for the home white-ball series against India in October and November. That tour will be a big chance for them to push for a spot in the 2027 ODI World Cup.

Allen, Ferguson, and Seifert had casual deals last year too. Milne is a new addition. He has not played for New Zealand since mid-2025 but was set to feature in the T20 World Cup earlier this year before injury ruled him out.

Meanwhile, Kane Williamson has retired from the system. Devon Conway has moved back to a full contract. Jimmy Neesham has taken a domestic deal with Auckland.

These deals give players flexibility. They can play in leagues around the world while still being available for the national team. Selection head Gavin Larsen said the players’ skills are “in demand around the world,” and that is seen as a positive.

Larsen also highlighted the importance of the upcoming India tour. “There’s no secret the in-bound India mega-tour is of critical importance to NZC on and off the field,” he said. The tour features ten white-ball games followed by six Tests. A deep squad will be needed, especially in the pace department.

None of the four players are part of the ODI squad in the West Indies. They are all currently playing in Major League Cricket. But Larsen has already said the West Indies ODIs will kickstart preparations for the 2027 World Cup. The casual contracts give New Zealand a wider pool to choose from when the time comes.
