Mitchell Santner Injured Again, Out for at Least One Month

New Zealand’s white-ball captain Mitchell Santner will be out for at least four weeks after hurting his shoulder badly. New Zealand Cricket confirmed on Friday that Santner suffered a grade three ACL injury in his shoulder.

Santner got injured while playing for Mumbai Indians in the IPL. The accident happened during a match against Chennai Super Kings on April 23. He tried to take a catch but fell hard on his shoulder and also hit his head on the ground. He had to leave the field and Mumbai Indians brought in Shardul Thakur as his replacement for that game. Later, the team signed Keshav Maharaj to replace Santner for the rest of the IPL season.

Due to this injury, Santner will miss the one-off Test against Ireland and the first Test against England. The Ireland Test starts on May 27. The England series begins on June 4 at Lord’s. New Zealand will play three Tests in England. They also have a tour to the Caribbean in July for ODIs and T20Is against the West Indies.

Santner came back to New Zealand this week and met with a specialist. The fresh scan showed the full damage to his shoulder. He will now focus on getting better before he can play again.
