Mohammad Nabi Fined for Umpire Dispute During Afghanistan-South Africa Thriller
Afghanistan all-rounder Mohammad Nabi has been fined 15 percent of his match fees and handed one demerit point for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during his team’s dramatic T20 World Cup clash against South Africa on Wednesday.
The incident occurred in the 14th over of Afghanistan’s innings, when Nabi engaged in a prolonged argument with the umpires regarding South Africa pacer Lungi Ngidi’s wrist band. His objection to the umpire’s decision was deemed a Level 1 offence under the ICC Code of Conduct.
Nabi accepted the sanction proposed by match referee David Gilbert of the Emirates ICC International Panel, avoiding the need for a formal hearing. As the offence was his first in a 24-month period, he received one demerit point in addition to the financial penalty.
The controversy unfolded during an intense contest that ultimately required two Super Overs to separate the sides, with South Africa eventually clinching both points in a memorable encounter.
