BCB Denies ICC Ultimatum, Confirms Dialogue Over T20 World Cup Security Concerns
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has strongly denied media reports claiming the International Cricket Council (ICC) issued an ultimatum regarding their participation in the upcoming T20 World Cup in India. The board clarified that discussions are ongoing and constructive.
This comes after the BCB had formally written to the ICC requesting the relocation of its matches in the tournament, citing security concerns for the national team. In an official statement released on Wednesday, the BCB confirmed it has received a response from the ICC.
“The ICC has reiterated its commitment to ensuring the full and uninterrupted participation of the Bangladesh team in the tournament,” the BCB stated. It added that the global body has shown willingness to work closely with them to address the concerns raised and will consider their inputs as part of the detailed security planning.
The board categorically refuted claims of an ultimatum, calling such reports “completely false, unfounded and do not reflect the nature or content of the communication received from the ICC.”
Reaffirming its priority, the BCB said it remains “firmly committed to placing the highest priority on the safety, security and well-being of the Bangladesh National Cricket Team” and will continue “constructive engagement” with the ICC to find an amicable solution.
BCB President Aminul Islam is scheduled to hold a virtual meeting with board directors later today to discuss the matter further.
