Metroid Prime 4: How to Use Green Crystals?

Green Crystals Do In Metroid Prime 4 Beyond

Green Energy Crystals are one of the most important resources in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. You’ll start finding them as soon as you reach Sol Valley, and you’ll keep picking them up all the way through the game.

At first, they look like simple collectibles, but later they become essential for weapon upgrades, ability boosts, and even story progress.

This guide explains how they work, where they’re used, and why you should turn them in regularly.

What Green Crystals Do In Metroid Prime 4: Beyond?

Green Crystals are like an energy source that powers the upgrades associated with the Altar of Legacy. You do not use them one by one; instead, they populate a progress bar. Unlocking of permanent upgrades for Samus is done by reaching specific positions on that bar, and among these upgrades are:

  • more potent Psychic Beam hits
  • swifter Control Beam transport
  • a green-crystal locator on your radar
  • items for the end-game story
  • The Legacy Suit that grants a protective psychic shield

You will not have to calculate the number of crystals that you have collected because the game monitors your progress in percentages.

How To Use Green Crystals In Metroid Prime 4: Beyond?

1. Go to the Altar of Legacy in Fury Green

Once the hub area inside Fury Green opens (after McKenzie sets up there), you can access the Altar of Legacy. This is the only place where you can submit Green Crystals.

Walk up to the central podium and interact with it. Samus will deposit all crystals you’ve gathered so far, and your upgrade meter will rise.

You can do this at any time — but it’s smart to visit after every major dungeon or exploration session so you don’t miss an upgrade for too long.

2. Upgrade Milestones

Your rewards come in stages:

  • 25% – Psychic Beam Upgrade: Your Psychic Beam becomes faster and deals more damage.
  • 50% – Control Beam Boost: You can speed up Control Beam shots by holding B or L.
  • 75% – Green Crystal Finder: Your radar begins marking green crystal locations, making farming much faster.
  • 100% – Memory Fruit & Legacy Suit Access: You receive the Memory Fruit, which is tied to the late-game story and unlocks the Legacy Suit. The suit can create a psychic barrier by using Missile Ammo.
  • Up to 200% – Extra Visual Rewards: The game lets you continue collecting crystals even after filling the meter once.

3. Deposit Crystals Regularly

The Green Crystals significantly enhance the basic weapons of Samus. If you don’t pay attention to them, you will most of the time end up with a less powerful control beam and will be mid-way through a fight without knowing it and will be unprepared.

Because the game hides the exact numbers needed for each upgrade, visiting the altar periodically prevents you from accidentally going hours without triggering an upgrade you already earned.

4. Track Your Progress

You can track how close you are to the next upgrade by opening the Mission tab in the pause menu. Inside this menu, you’ll see a meter that fills up every time you deposit green crystals. When the meter is green, it means you’ve reached the first full completion and unlocked all major upgrades tied to that cycle.

When it turns blue, you’ve begun filling the second cycle, which represents the true 100 percent collection. Watching this meter is the easiest way to know how far you are from the next reward.
