Mushrooms are one of the earliest obstacles that block your progress in Disney Dreamlight Valley, especially inside the Glade of Trust. They grow in clusters—small and large—and you can’t clear either type until Merlin helps you improve your Watering Can.
If you’re stuck behind bridges covered in huge mushroom masses or you can’t access parts of the biome, this guide explains exactly how to unlock both Watering Can upgrades and remove every mushroom in your valley.
How to Remove Mushrooms in Disney Dreamlight Valley?
1. Increase Merlin’s Friendship Level
Merlin joins you right after you start the game, bear in mind that you will have to boost his friendship to unlock the quest he gives at level 7-8, which is about friendship points.
Daily chatting, spending time with him, and treating him to his daily changing favorite gifts will be the steps that lead to his levels going up quickly.
2. The Quest “A Dark Experiment” is Started
Merlin’s level is the right one and he is ready to give the quest which is going to let you get the first upgrade for your Watering Can. Merlin needs you to bring him the following:
- 20 Mushrooms – Gathered in the Glade of Trust
- 5 Emeralds – Taken from either Forest of Valor or Glade of Trust
- 3 Purified Night Shards – Produced from Night Shards + Dream Shards
Once you give him the items, Merlin upgrades your Watering Can, so it can be used to melt small mushroom clumps that are all over the valley.
With this upgrade, you are still not able to remove the massive mushrooms—those need a second upgrade instead.
How to Remove Large Mushroom Clusters in Disney Dreamlight Valley?
The bigger mushroom masses blocking both Glade of Trust bridges need a second, more powerful Watering Can upgrade.
1. Reach Max Friendship With Merlin
First, raise Merlin to friendship level 10. You’ll also need WALL-E in your village, since part of the quest requires his help.
2. Unlock WALL-E
Enter WALL-E’s realm in the Dream Castle and complete “The Shy Little Robot.” After that, he’ll join your village.
3. Begin the Quest “The Final Trial”
Merlin’s level-10 quest gives you the recipe for the final Watering Can enchantment. You’ll need to prepare several items, starting with 5 Purified Night Shards.
Take these shards to WALL-E—he’ll crush them into Night Shard Powder. Return the powder to Merlin to unlock the next objective.
Gather the Final Ingredients
Merlin then asks for three more items:
1. Falling Water
Located at the cliff edge where the river flows down, in the southwest corner of the Glade of Trust. Collect it by interacting with the shimmering area.
2. Ice Heart
Merlin hands you an Ice Heart Seed.
Set it in soil, give it water, and after it becomes mature, ice heart can be harvested.
3. 25 Mushrooms
Gleaned from the Glade of Trust area.
4. Make the Royal Watering Can Ointment
The ointment can be produced at any crafting workshop, after that take it back to the Merlin.
He will do the final enhancement, making your Watering Can powerful enough to remove all large mushroom heaps, even those preventing access to the bridges.
Clearing Green Mushrooms in The Storybook Vale (Everafter Biomes)
If you’re exploring Everafter in The Storybook Vale update, you’ll also encounter glowing green mushrooms that require a separate tool upgrade tied to Flynn Rider.
1. Start “An Old-Fashioned Heist” (Flynn’s Level 7 Friendship Quest)
To unlock this quest, you must:
- Recruit Flynn Rider by completing The Wild Woods’ Fairy Tale Trial
- Unlock The Fallen Fortress and The Elysian Fields
- Raise Flynn to friendship level 7
During the quest, he reveals that Aurora knew how to clear the glowing mushrooms and gives you her recipe.
2. Craft the Flower Extract
You need:
- 2 White Roses
- 2 Olive Green Tale Cone Flowers
- 4 Honeydew Melons
- 8 Posidonia
White Roses grow in The Fallen Fortress and The Wild Woods. Tale Cone Flowers appear in The Bind. Honeydew Melons and Posidonia are collected in Mythopia (Posidonia comes from non-circle fishing spots). Craft the Flower Extract, drink it, and your Watering Can gains the power to remove green Everafter mushrooms.
