The Wolf Maiden is one of the toughest night time world bosses in Kaifeng. She fights with unpredictable combos, fast dagger strikes, and enhanced wolf summons. This guide explains where to find her, how she behaves, and the safest strategy to defeat her across both phases.
Wolf Maiden Location in Where Winds Meet
1. Night-Only Boss at Desperation Ridge
The Wolf Maiden is located on the Desperation Ridge’s easternmost point, which is also the southernmost border of the Kaifeng area. She is a nocturnal creature and thus, you need to have your in-game time set to Xu (19) or later before you can enter the arena.
2. Early Encounter During a Side Quest
She may also be encountered during the side quest Feast Before the Beasts at Blissful Retreat. However, this early version will vanish if you advance too much in the main storyline, particularly after the destruction of Blissful Retreat in Chapter 1.
How to Beat Wolf Maiden in Where Winds Meet?
Phase 1 – Main Combat Strategy
1. Recommended Companion
Yuan Jin’gang is undoubtedly the most powerful and useful partner in this fight. His archery is not only capable of staggering the Wolf Maiden but also of sucking her Qi from a great distance. Thus, it is you who is going to set the fight’s pace. Make the boss concentrate on you so that the ally can shoot without worries.
2. Deal With the Wolves First
Initially, the boss is perched on a tree trunk, and two wolves are attacking you. The wolves can either jump or roll towards you, and you can dodge or parry their attacks, but if you do the latter, the Wolf Maiden’s energy will not drop.
3. Watch for the Gold Drop Attack
Once the wolves have bitten twice, she dives down with a gold-glow attack. This attack is unblockable and the player must time the dodge perfectly to avoid it.
4. Fight Close to Force Parry Windows
Stick close to the Wolf Maiden and parry her melee hits and snatch Qi from her. Most of her starter shots are very straightforward, yet the last one is often stammering, thus, be cautious and ready to dodge in case your parrying rhythm gets broken.
5. Punish Red Attacks
Her red dagger thrust + backflip kick can be perfectly parried. A perfect parry here gives you one of the most reliable openings for a Qi break.
When she swings her dagger and sends silver blades outward, you can attack them at range for bonus Qi damage or dodge backward if you need space to heal.
Phase 2 – Enraged Wolf Maiden
1. The Beginning of the Second Phase
The Wolf Maiden, once her health is almost at 75%, lets out a loud howl and thereby creates a strong blast, which also harms the nearby areas. From now on, her Qi will gradually be renewed, and you will have to continuously attack.
2. Higher-level Combos
The Wolf Maiden in the second phase is the same, but much stronger. Her hits inflict more damage, their animation speed is much faste,r and almost all of them start making the opponent bleed.
This means you will have to respond faster and keep the parry timing sharp, or else your health will deplete much quicker than during the first phase.
3. New Gold Dive Attack
Next, she cartwheels into the air, then dives and releases an energy burst. It must be avoided as it cannot be blocked or parried.
4. Parry the Red Finisher
In most of her enhanced combos, the last dagger thrust shines red. Perfectly parry this strike to stop her and Qi recovery.
5. Stay Aggressive but Not Reckless
Since her Qi goes up, you have to parry continuously to push her to the point where she cannot hit you. However, do not use all your stamina trying to parry every attack — when the timing becomes uncertain, simply dodge.
6. Capitalize on Exhaustion Windows
When you finally break her Qi gauge, this is the moment to unload your strongest options. Use your longer attack strings, your heavy stance-break skills, and your execute finisher while she is fully Exhausted.
Keep her attention away from Yuan Jin’gang so he can keep firing arrows and interrupting her combos.
Wolf Maiden Move set in Where Winds Meet
1. Wolf Pack
Two wolves leap while she prepares a gold dive from above.
- Wolves: evade or parry
- Maiden’s dive: dodge only
2. Ninefold Combo
Nine quick slashes followed by a delayed final hit. Great for draining her Qi if you parry the early swings correctly.
3. Blade Dance
She licks her dagger before rushing in with a spinning slash, then repeats after a short delay. Parry the first rush, then prepare for the delayed second strike.
4. Red Wolf Rush
This sequence begins with a red-glow thrust, followed by a flipping kick, and finishes with another red thrust. All three hits can be perfect-parried, but the timing is tight.
If you land all three parries, she becomes wide open for a counter. If you’re unsure of the timing, it’s safer to dodge backward.
5. Wolf Claw Combo
A leap followed by claw swipes with a final delayed strike. Parry timings shift slightly with each swing.
6. Leaping Fang
Gold-glow grab attack. Since it cannot be blocked or parried, you must dodge to the side just as she leaves the ground. Getting caught in this move often leads to heavy damage or Bleed in Phase 2.
7. Triple Dagger Throw
Three dagger volleys from mid-range. Parry or sidestep.
8. Blind Spot
Teleport-like dash behind you followed by a red-glow strike. Perfect-parry timing is strict but very rewarding.
Defeating the Wolf Maiden gives you a steady pool of valuable items. You receive Echo Jade, Kaifeng Exploration Points, a large amount of Character EXP, and a good sum of Coins. She also drops Medicinal Tales and Inner Way Notes (Custom Chest), both of which help with long-term progression.
