Apollo Tyres Bags Team India Jersey Sponsorship for INR 579 Crore, Marking a Major Debut in Indian Cricket

Apollo Tyres has clinched the prestigious jersey sponsorship rights for the Indian cricket team, securing a landmark deal worth INR 579 crore. The agreement, confirmed on Tuesday, spans two-and-a-half years, covering as many as 121 bilateral fixtures and 21 ICC matches. This marks Apollo Tyres’ debut in Indian cricket sponsorship, positioning the Gurgaon-based company alongside the sport’s most prominent commercial partners. The tyre manufacturer, which operates in over 100 countries, outbid Canva (INR 544 crore) and JK Cements (INR 477 crore) in a highly competitive bidding process. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) did not reveal the exact value of the winning bid but emphasised that it represented a significant rise compared to previous deals, reflecting the ever-growing commercial pull of Indian cricket.
Sponsorship Value and Breakdown
Financially, the deal works out to around INR 4.77 crore per match, though the final figure fluctuates due to differences between bilateral and ICC games. Cricbuzz reported that the BCCI had set a base price of INR 3.5 crore for bilateral fixtures and INR 1.5 crore for ICC World Cup matches. Neeraj Kanwar, Vice-Chairman and Managing Director of Apollo Tyres Ltd, expressed pride in the company’s association with Team India. He described the partnership as an opportunity to honour national pride, strengthen consumer trust, and highlight Apollo as an industry leader while supporting Indian sport at the top level.
BCCI’s Sponsorship Shift Post Dream11
The BCCI was forced to seek a new sponsor after its contract with Dream11 was abruptly annulled following a government directive banning all real money gaming companies. With the announcement arriving close to the Asia Cup, India had to participate in the continental tournament in the UAE without a jersey sponsor. Industry opinion initially questioned the level of response the tender might attract, particularly after the exit of gaming firms, long considered the largest financiers of Indian cricket. However, Apollo Tyres’ winning bid surpassed expectations, exceeding Dream11’s previous INR 358 crore deal by nearly INR 200 crore. Mumbai-based WPP Media reportedly played a key role in Apollo’s valuation and successful bid.
Debut Series and Upcoming Fixtures
Apollo Tyres will make its first on-field appearance as Team India’s jersey sponsor during the upcoming India A vs Australia 50-over series in Kanpur, starting September 30. The sponsor’s logo will be displayed in the three matches scheduled for September 30, October 2, and October 5.Following that, the sponsorship will extend to India’s home Test series against the West Indies from October 2, before being showcased in the overseas limited-overs series in Australia.
Official Statements and Outlook
Commenting on the new association, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia hailed the deal as a reflection of the hard work and performance of Indian teams and the unparalleled influence of cricket in the country. He described it not just as a commercial agreement, but as a partnership between two trusted institutions. Other bidders, including UP-based Shank Air and Dubai-based Omniyat, had shown early interest by purchasing the tender documents but did not participate in the final bidding.
Apollo Tyres’ first step into Indian cricket sponsorship comes at a time when the sport’s commercial landscape is rapidly evolving, underlining both the company’s ambition and cricket’s unmatched reach among global sporting markets.
