From Underdogs to Giants: Afghanistan Eliminates England in a Nail-Biting Match

WHAT A MATCH!!

Everyone is saying the same thing after watching the exciting game between Afghanistan and England.  The eighth game of the Champions Trophy 2025 has just completed, and we witnessed peak cricket drama.  Afghanistan’s determined performance has eliminated England from the Champions Trophy 2025 semi-finals competition.

Afghanistan batted first and scored an impressive 325 runs, with Ibrahim Zadran adding 177 runs to the total. England lost a couple of wickets early in the chase and fell 8 runs short of  victory.  Joe Root scored 120 runs in 111 balls but failed to pull the task.  It was indeed a difficult challenge for the Afghans to defend 325 on the flat surface of the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Their sheer will and desire helped them to stand and fight for survival in the Champions trophy race. Azmatullah Omarzai gave his greatest career performance, taking 5 wickets in 9.5 overs with an economy rate of just 5.90 runs per over, experienced Muhammad Nabi took 2 import wickets in his 8-over spell with an economy rate of 7.10 runs.

Afghanistan’s steady and consistent rise in international cricket has been inspiring! You can’t term their wins as upsets anymore, they’ve made this a habit now.

This stunning victory cannot be considered a fluke; as we saw in the 2023 World Cup, the Afghans already defeated New Zealand, Sri Lanka, and England. Afghanistan is emerging as one of the strongest teams in modern cricket; there will be no questions if they win their forthcoming match against Australia and reach the semi-finals.
