CSK Bring in Macneil Noronha as Replacement for Injured Ramakrishna Ghosh

Chennai Super Kings have signed Karnataka all-rounder Macneil Hadley Noronha for the rest of IPL 2026. He comes in place of Ramakrishna Ghosh, who broke his foot on his IPL debut against Mumbai Indians on May 3.

CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan confirmed that the team has written to the BCCI and is waiting for approval to finalise the signing.

Who is Macneil Noronha?

The 24-year-old had a very good season for the Mangaluru Dragons in their title-winning 2025 Maharaja Trophy campaign. He scored 253 runs from 13 matches with a strike rate of 148.82. He also hit 19 sixes in that season.

Noronha bowls off-spin as well. He took 10 wickets in the competition at an economy rate of 7.44. His best bowling figures of 2 for 25 came in the final against Hubli Tigers. He was later called up to the Karnataka squad for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and played three games.

More injury problems for CSK

Ghosh’s injury is another blow for Chennai Super Kings in a season full of fitness issues. They have already lost fast bowler Khaleel Ahmed and young batter Ayush Mhatre to season-ending injuries.

Before the season started, Nathan Ellis was also ruled out. His replacement Spencer Johnson was unavailable for a while due to his own injury.

CSK have also been without MS Dhoni since the start of the season. The former captain is recovering from a calf strain.

The team replaced Mhatre with Akash Madhwal but have yet to name a replacement for Khaleel Ahmed. Despite all these problems, CSK have made a strong comeback in the second half of the season.
