Andy Flower Fined for Using Bad Language During MI Match

The head coach of Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Andy Flower, has been fined 15 percent of his match fee for breaking the IPL code of conduct.

The incident happened during the match against Mumbai Indians in Raipur on Sunday, May 10. Flower was caught using bad language during the game. The IPL said this breaks Article 2.3 of the code of conduct, which is about using an audible obscenity.

What exactly happened?

The trouble started in the 17.2 over of RCB’s run chase. There was a close call on a boundary involving Krunal Pandya. The umpires had to check if the catch was clean or not.

Flower was not happy with what happened. He went to the fourth umpire and had an aggressive talk with him. He admitted that he spoke aggressively with the umpire.

The match referee, Amit Sharma, decided on the punishment. Under IPL rules, when a coach or player breaks a Level 1 rule, the punishment is final. No one can change it. So Flower has to pay the fine.

For fans who may not know, an audible obscenity simply means using bad or offensive words that others can hear clearly. This is not allowed in the IPL. Players and coaches have to behave properly on and off the field.

This is not a very big punishment, but it is a warning for everyone in the tournament to keep their cool.
