Microsoft Increases Xbox Game Pass Subscription Prices: What It Means for Gamers

Xbox Game Pass Subscription Prices

Microsoft has officially raised the price of its Xbox Game Pass subscription, sparking frustration among gamers worldwide.

The company recently revealed new pricing for all tiers, saying the changes are meant to give players “more flexibility and value.” However, many fans disagree, calling the move “anti-consumer” and cancelling their subscriptions in protest.

Here’s what you should know!

Xbox Game Pass Subscription Prices in India

The new price for the Essential plan in India is ₹588.82 per month (including taxes). The price increased from ₹349. This plan allows access to more than 50 games on consoles, PCs, and all the supported devices.

The Premium plan is now ₹824.82 per month, which allows subscribers to access more than 200 games, and Xbox games which are published in the previous year.

The Ultimate plan offers more than 400 games, EA Play, and Ubisoft+ Classics, and it is now ₹1,639.02 per month. This price is close to double the previous price, which was ₹829.

Microsoft also increased the price for the PC Game Pass to ₹1,108.02 per month, which includes hundreds of PC games, and new games on the first day of release.

Here’s a quick look at the price changes over time:

Year Core Standard Ultimate PC
2019 ₹699 ₹999 ₹329
2020 ₹699 ₹999 ₹699
2021 ₹489 ₹699 ₹489
2022 ₹349 ₹499 ₹349
2024 ₹349 ₹829 ₹449
2025 (latest) ₹499 ₹699 ₹1,389 ₹939

While Microsoft claims the price hike supports new content and improved features, many gamers feel it adds to the growing cost of gaming.

Popular titles like Call of Duty and Hogwarts Legacy have been added to the Game Pass library, but for some players, the higher subscription price outweighs the perks.

As gaming becomes more expensive globally, Microsoft’s decision has reignited the debate over whether subscription-based models are still the “best deal in gaming.
