Nintendo has finally confirmed that Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will arrive on December 4, 2025. This long-awaited sequel marks the return of Samus Aran in one of the company’s most iconic sci-fi franchises.

Metroid Prime 4 Beyond Platforms and System Requirements
Originally revealed at E3 2017, Metroid Prime 4 went through a rocky development cycle, with Nintendo eventually restarting production under Retro Studios.
You will be able to play Metroid Prime 4. Beyond on the previous Switch as well as the more powerful Switch 2. The newer console will offer two performance modes:
- Quality Mode: 4K resolution at 60 frames per second (docked)
- Performance Mode: 1080p at up to 120 frames per second
The Switch 2 version also takes advantage of the system’s new mouse-like Joy-Con controls, allowing you to aim weapons with high precision.
Metroid Prime 4 Beyond Gameplay
The core gameplay stays true to the Metroid Prime formula having a blend of first-person combat, exploration, and puzzle-solving. However, in this title, the developers have added psychic powers that add an entirely new layer to combat.
The story begins with Samus responding to a distress call from a Galactic Federation facility under attack by Sylux. This time, Sylux appears to command both Space Pirates and Metroids, forcing Samus to uncover the truth behind their alliance and retrieve a powerful ancient artifact.
Alongside returning classics like the Morph Ball, Scan Visor, and Missile Launcher, the psychic powers seem to be central to both the gameplay and the storyline. The game’s main setting, Viewros, is a lush, alien jungle world teeming with wildlife, environmental hazards, and remnants of an ancient civilization.
Early footage shows Samus solving puzzles and fending off enemies using these new abilities while exploring Viewros. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond launches December 4, 2025, for both the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2.
