Who is Akash Choudhary? Smashed 8 sixes in a row, scored Fastest Fifty in First-Class History
Meghalaya’s Akash Choudhary created cricket history at the Pithawala ground in Surat when he smashed eight consecutive sixes to reach the fastest half-century in first-class cricket history.
In a Ranji Trophy Plate Group match against Arunachal Pradesh, the lower-order batsman took just nine minutes and eleven balls to reach his half-century, breaking the previous record by one ball. Akash completed his half-century by hitting six sixes in an over, i.e. a total of eight consecutive sixes.
Coming in to bat at number eight with Meghalaya on 576-6, Akash started with a dot and two singles before smashing six consecutive sixes off left-arm spinner Limar Daby. This made him the third player to achieve this feat in an over in a first-class match, before him, West Indies legend Sir Garfield Sobers achieved this feat in 1968 and former Indian all-rounder Ravi Shastri in 1985.

This made Akash the first player to hit eight consecutive sixes in first-class cricket, while his record-breaking half-century came in just 11 balls. The previous record was 12 balls, taken by Wayne White playing for Leicestershire against Essex in 2012.
Meghalaya soon declared at 629-8, with Akash remaining unbeaten on 50 off 14 balls. He hit eight sixes, not just a single four, and became the second batsman in Ranji Trophy history, joining Ravi Shastri, to hit six sixes in an over.
Born in 1999, Akash is a right-arm fast bowler who has been a reliable performer for the state since his first-class debut in the 2019-20 season. His quick and big impact wasn’t just with the bat; he also managed to make an impact with the ball on many crucial occasions. Besides playing for Meghalaya, Akash Chaudhary also played for the North East Zone team. His dual contribution with bat and ball further enhances his importance to the team and establishes him as a new, promising talent on the big domestic stage.
