West Indies Give Alzarri Joseph a Break Before Sri Lanka Test Series
The West Indies have decided to give fast bowler Alzarri Joseph some time off during the upcoming T20I series against Sri Lanka. The team management wants to manage his workload ahead of the two Test matches that follow.
Cricket West Indies announced the squad on Tuesday, confirming that Joseph has been rested for the three T20Is at home. He hasn’t played a T20I since July last year, and this break will help him stay fresh for the longer format.
This T20I series is West Indies’ first since the T20 World Cup 2026, where they came close to reaching the semifinals. The squad sees three changes from that World Cup team. Ackeem Auguste, Jewel Andrew, and Shamar Springer have been brought in. They replace Johnson Charles, Quentin Sampson, and Jayden Seales. All three new faces have played T20Is for West Indies before.
There is good news on Shamar Joseph as well. He had left the squad before the third ODI, but he is expected to rejoin in time for the T20I leg.
The ODI series against Sri Lanka ended with the visitors winning 1-0, as the second and third matches were washed out due to rain. Now, all eyes are on the T20Is, which will be played at Sabina Park in Jamaica on June 11, 13, and 14.
Head Coach Daren Sammy said this series is an important step after the World Cup. “Our focus now is to build on those foundations, continue growing as a team and make our fans proud with the way we compete against Sri Lanka,” he shared.
