South Africa’s Blow: Kagiso Rabada Ruled Out of India Test Series Decider
In a significant development ahead of the series decider, South Africa has been dealt a major blow with the confirmation that pace spearhead Kagiso Rabada will miss the second and final Test against India in Guwahati.
Rabada, who sat out the Proteas’ historic 30-run victory in the first Test in Kolkata, has been officially withdrawn from the remainder of the tour. The decision comes after the team’s medical staff closely monitored a rib-bone stress injury he sustained just before the series.
Despite ongoing treatment, the premier fast bowler continues to experience discomfort in the affected area, making him unavailable for the crucial match. This setback compounds South Africa’s pace bowling concerns, though they had already called up Lungi Ngidi to reinforce their attack ahead of the first Test.
Rabada’s absence places greater responsibility on the bowling unit that performed admirably in Kolkata. Spinner Simon Harmer and all-rounder Marco Jansen rose to the occasion in the first Test, sharing 13 wickets between them to secure South Africa’s first Test victory on Indian soil since 2010.
The visitors, who currently lead the two-match series 1-0, will now aim to clinch the series without their star pacer. The defending World Test Championship champions, sitting second in the standings, will look to build on their momentum as they chase crucial points.
The injury news comes as India also grapples with their own captaincy crisis, with regular skipper Shubman Gill ruled out of the must-win Guwahati Test, setting the stage for a compelling battle of reshuffled line-ups.
