South Africa Women reach their maiden World Cup Final: Laura Wolvaardt & Marizanne Kapp’s Heroic performance

South Africa Women

The South African women’s team created history by defeating England in the semi-final 1 of the Women’s World Cup, securing their place in the final. This will be the first time in Women’s World Cup history that South Africa’s women’s team will play in the title game of a Women’s World Cup. And the biggest contributors to this feat were South African captain Laura Wolvaardt and all-rounder Marizanne Kapp, who performed exceptionally well in this match.

South Africa Women and England Women faced each other in the first semi-final of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025, where England won the toss and decided to field first. This decision did not prove to be very beneficial for England as the South African batsmen gave the team a strong start. The SA-W skipper, Laura Wolvaardt, and Tazmin Brits played a key role in providing a strong start to the team, and both players looked composed right from the start.

The duo put on a solid 116-run opening stand before Tazmin departed in the 23rd over after scoring 45 off 65 balls. Although South Africa’s innings faltered after this, M Kapp’s 42 and Chloe Tryon’s 33-run innings helped the team to add more runs to the scoreboard. But the most important knock in this innings was by South Africa captain Wolvaardt, who played an innings of 169 runs in 143 balls, due to which the team was successful in achieving a big total of 319 runs. Sophie Ecclestone starred for England Women’s bowling line-up, taking four wickets in 10 overs for 44 runs.

Chasing such a huge total, the England Women’s team did not have a good start as three batsmen returned to the pavilion without opening their accounts. After which, English captain Nat Sciver-Brunt and Alice Kappsey tried to handle the team together and made a partnership of 105 runs for the fourth wicket. Sciver-Brunt also failed to sustain the innings for long, returning to the pavilion after scoring 64 runs, after which the English team continued to suffer setbacks. And the team was all out for 194 runs in 42.3 overs. The South African women’s team won the match by a huge margin of 125 runs. M Kapp, who batted well in the first innings, also performed brilliantly with the ball, taking five wickets for 20 runs in seven overs.

The South Africa women’s team will play their first Women’s World Cup final on November 2 at the DY Patil ground in Navi Mumbai, where they will face the winner of semi-final 2. Australia Women and India Women will play the second semi-final on October 30.
