Zimbabwe Recall Big Guns for Historic Test Clash with New Zealand in Bulawayo
Zimbabwe Cricket has named a strong 16-member squad for the upcoming two-Test series against New Zealand, set to begin on July 30 in Bulawayo. The Chevrons – captained by the seasoned Craig Ervine – are aiming to make a mark against the inaugural World Test Champions as they field a rejuvenated side bolstered by several key comebacks.

Among the biggest returns is all-rounder Sikandar Raza, joined by dependable top-order batters Roy Kaia and Tanunurwa Makoni, both of whom missed recent outings. Brian Bennett, the rising 21-year-old opener who missed part of the South Africa series due to concussion, has also been cleared and included in the squad. He will be one to watch after his century against England at Trent Bridge earlier this year.
Bennett had also shone during the Bangladesh series earlier in May, finishing as Zimbabwe’s second-highest run-scorer as they recorded their first Test win since 2018.
Ben Curran makes his way back into the fold after recovering from a hand fracture, giving head coach Dave Houghton more depth in the top order. Wicketkeeper-batter Clive Madande and veterans Sean Williams and Blessing Muzarabani further boost the hosts’ experience and balance.
Making way for the returning stars are Takudzwanashe Kaitano, Prince Masvaure, Wessly Madhevere, and Kundai Matigimu – all of whom featured in the series against South Africa.
Zimbabwe and New Zealand are currently engaged in a T20I tri-series with South Africa, but all eyes will soon turn to the longer format as Test cricket returns to Queens Sports Club.
Test Series Schedule
| Match | Dates | Venue |
| 1st Test | July 30 – August 3, 2025 | Bulawayo |

With a near full-strength lineup and home advantage, Zimbabwe will look to challenge the Black Caps and build momentum on their recent red-ball revival.
