Is Bumrah’s Form a Big Worry for India?
India’s star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is going through a tough phase in IPL 2026. His recent performances have raised serious concerns not just for his IPL team but also for India ahead of important international matches.
In the latest match against Lucknow Super Giants, Bumrah conceded 31 runs in just his first two overs. This included a very expensive over where he gave away 21 runs in 8 balls. He also bowled wides and no balls, which is very unusual for a bowler known for his control.
The bigger concern is his overall performance this season. Bumrah has not taken a single wicket in his last seven matches. His pace has also dropped. His average speed is now around 134 kmph and his fastest ball reached only 141 kmph. These numbers are clearly lower than his usual standards.
This drop in form has also affected Mumbai Indians. The team is currently struggling in the tournament with just three wins in ten matches and sitting near the bottom of the points table.
Many cricket experts believe that Bumrah needs a break. Former India coach Sanjay Bangar said the team should think about resting him even if it affects Mumbai Indians’ chances this season. Veda Krishnamurthy also suggested that the team management should speak with Bumrah and understand if he is feeling fully fit from inside.
One of the main reasons behind this struggle could be workload. Bumrah has been playing continuous cricket and it seems like his body is feeling the pressure. His body language on the field also shows frustration, which is not something we usually see from him.
There were still some positive signs in his bowling. In the death overs, he looked much better and gave only 14 runs in two overs. His yorkers and slower balls were still effective and troubled batters like Aiden Markram and Himmat Singh. This shows that his skill is still there, but consistency is missing.
Some experts also pointed out that Mumbai Indians may not be using him in the best way. He bowled the second and fourth overs in the powerplay, but it may be better to use him in the first and third overs where he is more effective.
At this stage, the biggest question is not just about IPL performance but about India’s future matches. Bumrah is a key player for India, and his fitness is very important. The team management now has to decide whether to continue playing him or give him rest so that he can come back stronger.
If Bumrah gets proper rest and recovery, he can return to his best form. But if the current situation continues, it could become a bigger concern for India in upcoming tournaments.
