Cricket’s Grand Return to Olympics 2028: Dates and Details Unveiled!
Cricket fans, rejoice! The sport is set to make a triumphant return to the Olympic stage at Los Angeles 2028, a whopping 128 years after its lone appearance in Paris 1900, where Great Britain clinched gold in a one-off match against France. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has just dropped the official dates, and it’s time to mark your calendars for this historic moment in cricket’s global journey.
The T20 competitions for both men’s and women’s categories will light up the Fairgrounds in Pomona, about 50 km from downtown Los Angeles, from July 12 to July 29, 2028. The women’s medal matches are slated for July 20, while the men’s will wrap things up on July 29. Expect thrilling double-headers on most matchdays, with games kicking off at 9:00 AM and 6:30 PM local time, ensuring fans get a full dose of high-octane cricket action.
Six teams per gender will battle it out, with each tournament featuring 90 athletes, allowing nations to field 15-member squads. The venue, confirmed back in April, is primed to host this landmark event, showcasing cricket’s growing reach on one of the world’s biggest sporting platforms. While the qualification process for LA28 is still under wraps, discussions are expected to heat up at the ICC’s Annual Conference in Singapore, which kicks off today, July 17, 2025.
This isn’t just a win for cricket-it’s a celebration of its global rise. From the dusty pitches of local grounds to the Olympic spotlight, the sport is ready to captivate a new audience. Stars of the game are already buzzing with excitement at the chance to compete for Olympic gold, and fans can’t wait to see their heroes shine. Get ready for a summer of unforgettable moments in 2028!
