BCCI Rewards Team India with ₹51 Crore for Winning the 2025 Women’s World Cup

Women's World Cup

The Harmanpreet Kaur-led team won the tournament for the first time in its history by defeating South Africa by 52 runs in the final match held at Dr DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. The Indian team faced disappointment in the 2005 and 2017 editions when they failed to cross the final hurdle; however, 2025 changed everything as the hosts won the tournament in front of their home crowd.

After this historic victory, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has also opened its coffers for the Indian women’s team and announced a cash prize of Rs 51 crore for the team on winning its first World Cup title. Along with this, the most important thing is that this reward of Rs 51 crore is more than the prize money that the Indian team gets from the ICC. The ICC will award the winners with a prize of USD 4.48 million (approximately Rs 39.78 crore).

BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed that the Indian board will award the women’s team with Rs 51 crore as they want to express their appreciation for winning a competitive tournament like the World Cup. They will give this amount to the players, selectors, and support staff led by Amol Muzumdar.

Saikia also thanked the ICC chairman and said, “Of course, we must thank ICC Chairman Jay Shah, because just a month before this tournament, he had increased the prize money of the ICC Women’s World Cup. That means the prize money has increased by almost 300 percent.”

Historic Victory for the Indian Women’s Team

The final match began with South Africa winning the toss and electing to bowl first. The Indian team got a good start from both the openers. India scored 298 runs thanks to Shefali Verma’s 87 off 78 and Deepti Sharma’s 58 runs. Chasing 299, South Africa did not have a good start and suffered setbacks after nine overs. But Captain Laura Wolvaardt, who was the hero of the semi-final, performed brilliantly in the final as well.

The South African captain scored a century, but the innings went in vain as India won by 52 runs. Deepti Sharma, who performed brilliantly with the bat, also bowled well and was successful in taking five wickets. After this, she got the Player of the Tournament award for her outstanding performance in the World Cup.
