Asia Cup 2025: Will Salman Agha Be Fit for the India Clash?
The build-up to an India vs Pakistan game is always full of drama, and the Asia Cup 2025 has delivered its first big talking point even before the match.
Pakistan skipper Salman Agha gave fans a real scare when he skipped most of Wednesday’s training session in Dubai, just days before the high-voltage clash.
What Happened?
During Pakistan’s practice at the ICC Academy, Salman Agha was seen with a bandage around his neck and avoided fitness drills while the rest of his teammates went through stretching, warm-ups, and light football exercises.
Reports suggested he had picked up a neck spasm, which raised doubts about whether he would be fit in time for the Asia Cup opener against Oman on Friday, and more importantly, the big game against India on Sunday.
PCB’s Response
The rumours quickly started swirling that Pakistan was about to lose its captain ahead of the most anticipated match of the tournament. However, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) moved fast to calm the situation.
Officials confirmed that Salman’s injury was minor, calling his absence from training a precautionary step. According to them, the all-rounder is expected to be back in full practice soon and will be available for both fixtures.
Why This Matters
The timing of the scare couldn’t have been worse. India have already begun their campaign with a dominant win over the UAE, looking sharp and confident. Pakistan, who haven’t lifted the Asia Cup since 2012, are under pressure to make a strong start.
Losing their captain now would have been a huge blow, especially since Salman Agha has been central to their plans in recent months.
Salman’s Own Words
Interestingly, before the tournament began, Salman spoke with confidence about his team’s form. He insisted that Pakistan have been “playing good cricket” and that everyone in the squad was excited for the challenge.
When asked if India were favourites to win the trophy, he kept it simple: in T20 cricket, “no one is favourite” because the game can turn in just one or two overs.
As things stand, Salman Agha is expected to lead Pakistan in their opening match against Oman and then walk out for the showdown against India on September 14 at the Dubai International Stadium.
Fans can breathe a little easier but all eyes will be on him once he steps onto the field. Any sign of discomfort will surely spark the debate all over again.
