LSG Plan Unique Pre-IPL Stint: To Send Indian Pacers to Train in South Africa
With an eye on the long IPL season ahead, Lucknow Super Giants are embarking on an innovative pre-season initiative. The franchise is set to send a group of its domestic fast bowlers to South Africa for specialized training with their sister franchise, Durban Super Giants, during the ongoing SA20 tournament.
Pacers Avesh Khan and Mohsin Khan are understood to be on the initial shortlist, with young left-arm seamer Naman Tiwari, bought for ₹1 crore at the recent auction, also likely to join. The players are expected to travel to Durban next week.
The strategic move is designed to provide valuable off-season exposure and focused training for bowlers who have been sidelined due to injuries. Avesh Khan has not played since the last IPL, while Mohsin Khan missed the entire 2025 season. The stint aims to accelerate their rehabilitation and match readiness under the watchful eyes of a familiar coaching staff.
LSG’s support staff has significant overlap with the Durban setup. Coaches Tom Moody, Bharat Arun, and Carl Crowe are part of both franchises, ensuring continuity in training methods and objectives. To adhere to protocols, LSG has reportedly sought and received necessary permissions from the BCCI for the training arrangement.
This initiative highlights LSG’s proactive approach to player development and injury management as they look to improve upon a seventh-place finish in IPL 2025. The franchise bolstered its squad at the recent auction with signings like Josh Inglis, Anrich Nortje, and Wanindu Hasaranga, and this early investment in their Indian pace unit underscores their intent to build a competitive side for the season starting March 26.
