The Forsaken Hollows expansion adds new Nightfarers, new bosses, and a major Shifting Earth event to Elden Ring: Nightreign. But like most FromSoftware DLC, you don’t get instant access. You must complete a few in-game requirements before the new content becomes available.
This guide explains exactly what you need to do, step-by-step, in simple, clear language.
How to Unlock the Forsaken Hollows DLC in Elden Ring Nightreign?
1. Install The Expansion Pack
To begin the DLC, you must install the expansion and then meet two in-game conditions. Once both requirements are complete, a hidden room in Roundtable Hold will open, giving you full access to the new content.
2. Defeat Two Nightlord Expeditions
You must defeat Tricephalos and at least one more Nightlord boss.
If you’re returning with an established character, you’ve likely already cleared these. Newer players may need to tackle a second expedition first. Many guides recommend Augur as an easier second Nightlord win.
Clearing two expeditions tells the game you’re ready for the next phase.
3. Unlock the Undertaker and Scholar Nightfarers
After defeating Tricephalos, return to Roundtable Hold. The Iron Menial will stop you and direct you to the Small Jar Merchant sitting in the southwest corridor.
A door behind him will now open.
Inside, you’ll witness a short encounter with a Nightfarer. When the scene ends, re-enter the room. The Scholar and the Undertaker will now appear, and speaking with them unlocks both as playable characters.
Once these two requirements are complete, the game will open the DLC hub for you.
4. Enter the Forsaken Hollows DLC Area
With both Nightfarers unlocked and two bosses defeated, return once more to the Small Jar Merchant in Roundtable Hold.
The locked door behind him will now lead into a new chapel. This chapel is the gateway to all Forsaken Hollows content.
From here, you can start:
- The Balancers Expedition – the DLC’s new boss expedition
- The Great Hollow – a new Shifting Earth event involving shifting terrain
- Additional DLC encounters that appear in Deep of Night (only if matched with other players who own the DLC)
Some DLC features appear only if you’re grouped with players who also own the expansion. If you queue with random matchmaking, DLC events may not trigger every time.
If you previously defeated Tricephalos or completed early expeditions, your progress still counts. The DLC unlocks as soon as all conditions are satisfied.
